Scenic Rim’s Eat Local program grew so big they had to extend it from just a week to a month long festival.
Its popularity meant there was just too much flavour and food to experience, so now it’s much bigger.
It’s the perfect time and place to educate kids about where their food comes from – no, milk does not come from a carton, nor does corn come from a packet. It’s a cow and a cob respectively.
There are 139 events at Eat Local Month this year, with plenty specifically for kids and families.
They can learn how mushrooms grow, and how to cook them; cuddle a camel at Summer Land Camels at the Little Farmer Humpty Day (and don’t forget to dress like a farmer); and take the family veggie picking at Valley Pride and Kalfresh Vegetables.
You can also meet Towri Sheep Cheeses’ famous Hercules the racing sheep, and taste amazing cheese and honey at their Open Farm and a whole lot more.
Then, cap off the month by eating your way around the Winter Harvest Festival, Eat Local Month’s signature family event.
The real stars of Eat Local Month are the award-winning producers, growers and flavour-makers, with the event providing the ultimate backstage pass to the farms, wineries, faces and food stories of the Scenic Rim, named by delicious Magazine as one of the top five places to visit in 2023.
