THE Jets Rugby Leagues Club is gearing up for one of its biggest charity functions of the year.
Cocktails and Canapes for a Cause is a fun afternoon with a serious agenda and that’s to raise much needed funds for Breast Screen Australia in conjunction with the Ipswich Hospital Breast cancer division.
This year’s event is on Friday, October 14 starting at 3pm and rocking on through to 7pm. The Jets are strong supporters of the Ipswich community and have always enjoyed great success when they stage fun functions such as this one.
Breast Screen Australia’s Amanda Lewis said her service was grateful to the Jets for supporting their work in raising awareness about breast cancer and the need for screening.
“We provide breast screening for women at more than 260 sites throughout Queensland with 11 local services including one here in Ipswich,” she said.
“We have 11 mobile screening vans, including a 4WD van, that travels to rural and remote areas to make breast screening accessible for more women.
“Since our formation in 1991 we have performed more than five million breast screens and detected more than 25,000 breast cancers.
