DOGS in the hundreds are expected to invade the Nicholas Street precinct this Saturday for the second annual Dog Day celebration.
With thousands of locals adopting pets during Covid it’s expected there will be plenty who will take the chance to show off their new best friends.
Council’s Dog Day follows on from the success of Dogfest in the city last year and this Saturday’s event will be even bigger.
This year there will be three sponsored competitions for pooch lovers to enter their furry friends in.
The competitions are the Hairiest Dog Competition, Dress Up as your Dog and Best Junior Dog Handler Competition.
Cr Andrew Fechner said Dog Day 2023 will be an opportunity for the community to share and celebrate their love of dogs.
“For so many of us, dogs are more than pets, they’re family and vital to our happiness and wellbeing,” Cr Fechner said.
“Dog Day 2023 will be a celebration of these beloved family members – from Afghan Hounds to Yorkies and every Coco, Milo, and Luna in between.
“With more than 70 dog and pet-related stallholders taking part in Dog Day with an array of human food trucks, workshops, demonstrations, and live music there will be something for every dog lover in the Nicholas Street Precinct.”
‘Dobbo’ Dobbin from Triple M will emcee and look after official proceedings for the day.
