COULD art be the saviour of the Ipswich CBD?

Many people are saying yes to that question and they are backing their judgement with commercial investments.

The latest to open a new art centre is Brassall artist, Kate Murray, who last week moved into her first shop front at 135 Brisbane Street in the Nolan Building.

The former schoolteacher has been providing student and adult art classes for the past few years and the popularity of the classes gave her the confidence to expand.

“I was just doing the classes at home or hiring venues and as it’s grown so much I realised to go forward the business really needed a base,” Kate said.

“I was fortunate to find a perfect shop at the top of the Nicholas Street Mall and I’m hoping to expand now it has a public face.”

I was a school teacher for more than a decade before I turned to my passion of art and I haven’t looked back.

Kate will hold her after-school classes for students and her adult workshops at the shop.

She will also be doing classes for students who are home schooled and will run regular paint and sip functions.

“I was a school teacher for more than a decade before I turned to my passion of art and I haven’t looked back,” she said.

“In fact, I don’t look at what I am doing as work, I love being creative and sharing my passion.”
