THE Adam McIntosh two year old bitch Elisheba is expected to start a short-priced favourite for the Vince Curry Memorial Maiden on Saturday after running a blistering 30.4 seconds to win her semi-final.

While she will have most of the punter’s money behind her she will have to overcome two hurdles before her owners can put the $75,000 winner’s cheque in the bank.

The first is that she is drawn outside in box seven and she’ll need to begin quickly to avoid the carnage that has featured on the first turn throughout the series.

The tight first turn can destroy or win the race for any dog and with all greyhounds in the race having had just a few starts and they are still learning to course.

Her second hurdle is to get across in front of the talented Corey Mutton youngster, He’s Classified.

The Barcia Bale sired speedster has drawn well in box three and is expected to be in the lead or close to it on the first bend.

He’s Classified’s time was just .3 of a second slower than Elishba’s winning time.

The 39th running of the Vince Curry is sure to attract one of the biggest crowds of the year to the Ipswich Showground track.

The club has gone all out to make it a family fun night with such things as free popcorn, fairy floss, twisted balloon animals and a jumping castle.
