I READ a quote recently that stated that for every half hour performance you see on the stage there is hundreds of hours of rehearsal.

This must certainly be the case for the Blackstone Cambrian Choir after they have received huge success at the 128th Queensland Eisteddfod, which was recently held in Toowoomba.

I was going to list all the wins but there are so many and I don’t have the space so here are just some of the highlights of their achievements.

The Senior Choir was magnificent in scoring firsts in the Welsh Hymn Singing, the Modern Chorus and the Chief Choral Contest.

This resulted in the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir bringing home the Lindsay Statham Memorial Challenge Aggregate Trophy and being awarded grand champion choir for the 128th Qld Eisteddfod.

A fantastic effort and great reward for the hours of rehearsals.

Individually Dorothy Vitagliano took out first in the Golden Voice section.

Daniel Bryant 1st place Champion Baritone, Hayden Westphal 1st place Champion Bass, Laveenia Ganash and Lindsay Newton Smith taking first in the Music Theatre duet with Hayden and Angela taking second as well.

Emma Hadfield, in her first Qld Eisteddfod, was awarded the Margaret Humphreys Plaque for Most Proficient Accompanist.

The Youth Choir was also awarded second in the Intermediate Choral Contest and awarded first in the Youth Music Theatre which saw them bring home the youth choral aggregate trophy.

I heard that The Cambrian Show Choir left some of the audience in tears with their moving medley from the musical ‘Come From Away.’

It also moved the adjudicator to award them first place in the Music Theatre.

Finally, Angela Burrows won the Instrumental Aggregate.

Congratulations to all the soloists, choristers, conductors, teachers, and accompanists who make the Blackstone Cambrian Choir the success it is.
