Our city continues to produce champions in many different disciplines and sports.

On Saturday night at the Super Sedans Speedway in Toowoomba, Brad Pascoe beat his dad Matty, the six time national champion, to win his first Queensland Title.

At just 19 years of age Brad has a big future ahead of him, and we wish him and his team all the best.

With the impending closure of Archerfield Speedway in a few months, it would be good to see a Speedway at Willowbank, so Brad and other locals could race at home.

Congratulations on your title Brad, and we look forward to following your career.

League debut

Kulikefu Finefeuiaki has become another former Ipswich High player to make an NRL debut.

Ipswich High is proving to be a nursery for the NRL, with 13 of last year’s championship team having signed with an NRL club, and another 13 current students having a deal for their future.

On Sunday, Kulikefu Finefeuiaki was the latest ISHS old boy to play NRL, debuting for the Cowboys.

Basketball talent

Matt Hodgson makes Jacqui Martin look tiny.

Saturday night we were entertained by the Ipswich Force basketball teams in two great matches.

The women’s game went down to the wire and they went down in the last 20 seconds.

The men’s team, oozing with NBL talent won by 12 points in a great game.

It was good to see arguably our city’s greatest basketball player, former Australian Boomer, Matt Hodgson in action.

He stands at an imposing 210cm and is a dominant presence on the court.

This was my first visit to basketball, and won’t be my last, and I encourage you to go and watch a game.

Let’s go Ipswich Force.

Celebrating together

Golden Glam dancers were just one of the many groups that performed at the Springfield Multi-Cultural Festival.

As our city continues to grow, so does our ethnic community.

Robelle Domain was home to a Multi-Cultural Festival on Saturday and it was enjoyable to walk around and experience an array of stalls and cultural exhibits.

I also enjoy the opportunity to taste different foods, with many store holders treating us to their home country favourites.

I love seeing a community come together and celebrate and Robelle and other community facilities should have more regular events to showcase local talents and interests.

Go for a picnic

Our city stretches from Springfield to Grandchester and boasts many country locations in between that offer scenic settings that we don’t have in suburbia.

We enjoy cruising to the country and supporting local businesses.

On Sunday we had morning tea at Soul Nook Collective at Marburg.

We then visited Bernard’s Watercress Creek olives and limes at Pine Mountain and enjoyed a lunch under the trees.

If you have spare time one weekend, you won’t be disappointed if you visit one of our country retreats.

I trust all the mums out there are pampered and spoilt this Sunday and I thank you for all you do.

Have a great week.
