Rick Borg, the administrator, and referee at ITA, blew his whistle for the last time on his 39 year career.

Rick was ranked the best Referee in the world for 12 years and officiated at 70 international matches.

It’s been a pleasure to referee with him. He will be missed and has had a big impact on the sport in not just our city, but our country.

I was fortunate to be refereeing the Blair State School Touch game with seniors playing teachers on Friday with legendary Rita Langer in the bunker for any controversial decisions.

Indoor cricket champs

Ipswich is currently hosting the best indoor cricketers in the country at the National Indoor Cricket Titles at the Ipswich Indoor Sports Centre at the Showgrounds. Well done to Kev and Andrew for putting their hand up to host the event and for organising it. This week the juniors are in action and if you have time, drop in and support our locals.

Old Flour Mill

The Old Flour Mill is one of many heritage icons.

Once again someone is trying to breathe life back into the Old Flour Mill in Brisbane Street with a new coffee show opened.

It is so important that Ipswich retains its history in the main street which sets us apart from other areas.

Saturday morning Alicia and Leigh opened “The Mill Coffee Shop” and when we popped in to wish them well it was interesting to see the name Cribb & Foote on the old brickwork.

Cribbs were bought out by Reid’s in the 70s and their name had all but been erased from our history.

Stars give back

Once again Queensland has won the State of Origin and it’s good to see locals Ali Brigganshaw and Shannon Mato giving back to grassroots.

Ali coaches an U6 side at her junior club in Norths, and Shannon helps out with the Swifts ladies’ team, and also supports her brother Riki in Swifts A grade.

Well done ladies and thank you for giving back to grass roots.

Finally a shout out to Calvert rider Bella Barrett who won gold in Dressage at the Special Olympics in Berlin.
