REDBANK Palms is one of many Over 50 retirement villages in the Ipswich region.

Like other centres they have committees that plan events and activities on a regular basis.

Four years ago, they came up with the idea of holding a Senior’s Expo in the auditorium at Redbank Palms.

Phil Webb sold some his crafts at the Expo.

According to committee member, Maureen Clifford, the idea was to bring service providers together in one place so the 250 or so residents of the village could find out in one morning what they could access.

What started as a novel idea has continued to grow and last week the main hall was overflowing with organisations wanting to take part.

The Expo is not just about senior service providers, it also offers a chance for residents at the village to make some pocket money by selling some of their arts and crafts.

Maureen said with new innovations for seniors happening all the time it was a great way to showcase what is now available.

“Some of our residents aren’t that mobile, so to just wander down to the hall is an ideal way for them to learn about new services and products,” she said.

“It’s getting bigger and better each year and we just hope we continue to get support, it’s not just for residents in this village we invite anyone to come along,” she said.

The social committee was kept on the hop with its Devonshire tea, while paintings, plants and woodcrafts were popular with the large crowd that attended.

The support no doubt will encourage the volunteer team at Redbank Palms to hold its fifth Expo next year.

It will also keep them busy getting craft items ready to sell.
