A ONE million dollar payday is hanging in the balance when the Brisbane Lions face off against the high flying Adelaide Crows at Springfield this Saturday afternoon.

The McClelland Cup competition for the top AFL and AFLW club has been running all year and the winners get a $1m cheque to be shared by the club and its players.

With just a few rounds to go in the AFLW the Lions are sitting second on the McClelland Cup ladder just four points adrift of Melbourne Demons and four in front of Collingwood.

Every win in the AFLW is worth eight points which means the Lions have the chance to go to the top of the ladder if they can beat the Crows and Melbourne fall to North Melbourne.

It’s not just the McClelland Cup on the line with the match against the Crows a real test of Brisbane’s premiership credentials.

After losing to Collingwood two weeks ago the team bounced back superbly smashing the strong Gold Coast Suns by 36 points.

Lions coach, Craig Starcevich, was pleased with the side’s return to form saying it was the hardest the team had run from start to finish all year.

“We have let a few games slip through our fingers this year and our record could be much better,” he said.

As for this Saturday’s big game he said his team was still building and it will be a good test to see exactly where we are at.

GOLD COAST 3.3 (21)
