Well, the 28 days of curing has started as the last part of the track surface of Willowbank raceways upgrade has been poured with thousands of tons of cement icing the cake so to speak.

The track is thicker than needed to compensate for the heavy machinery now used to prepare the track for race days.

The track has also had numerous expansion joints added with the contraction in the heat of the Queensland sun to leave the track in mint condition with years to come.

EARLY WORK: A lot has changed since the bulldozers first moved in to tear up the old track.

What this means is the track has 28 days to complete as much work as possible around the facility before they start to clean the top surface and wash it, then bring out Justin Simpson to start laying down the rubber and dragging the track to make it race ready for the fans for the end of the year’s action.

The new toilet block slabs have all been poured with more disabled facilities, parent rooms, a new waste system and water storage for the facility just to name a few.

This should be all completed by the end of November or early December.

The friends of Willowbank Facebook page has recently put out a call for volunteers.

The group is working on a number of projects to make improvements across the raceway.

They are looking for trades such as:

  • Boilermakers
  • Plumbers
  • Concrete Curbing
  • Electrician
  • Panel & Spray Painters
  • Fencing Contractors
  • Brick or Block Layers
  • Carpenters

If you are a Willowbank Raceway fan and would like to help improve the facility contact the office on 5461 5461 .
