QUEENSLAND Country Bank has put an Ipswich charity quids in. The local group was one of 12 community organisations from across Queensland who gained funding from Queensland Country Bank’s Good for Good Community Grants Program for 2023.
Queensland Country Bank has been supporting the community through a grants program since 2005, with approximately $2.5 million injected back into the community in this time.
The Ipswich division of Days for Girls Australia was granted $5,000 to put towards producing handmade, reusable menstrual kits. Team co-leader Wendy Whannell said the Good for Good Grant would be a great help in providing more financial support for this project, which was only possible due to the commitment of numerous volunteers.
“Our amazing team of volunteers meet to trace, cut, assemble, sew, fold and pack kits for distribution as well as to gather to socialise, share skills, offer companionship and support, providing a friendly volunteering opportunity addressing menstrual inequity, is a local and worldwide problem,” she said.
For the Ipswich Days for Girls Australia team, providing the option of sustainable, long-lasting and reusable menstrual kits could have life-changing, positive impacts for women and girls everywhere.
Without community support and financial funding, it’s hard to keep this great initiative running.
“Our group always needs funds to buy the resources to sew and assemble the components for the kits.
The very generous Queensland Country Bank Good for Good Community Grant will pay for supplies for 300 kits – each kit lasts three to four years,” Ms Whannell said.
“Wherever possible our group sources and purchases supplies for our kits locally and we use local businesses for machine and overlocker purchases and repairs.”
