COUNCILLOR Kate Kunzelmann is calling time on representing Division 4 with her decision not to run in the local government election next year. Cr Kunzellmann is bowing out with pride with the feeling she’s done the job she was elected to do.
Looking back over the term, Cr Kunzelmann said she was proud of her service to the residents of Division 4 and the contribution she has made.
“When I was elected as a Division 4 councillor in March 2020, I was certainly no stranger to community service. As a lifelong volunteer, I will find new ways to work in my community,” said Cr Kunzelmann.
“Being a councillor has certainly been a unique experience but one I have thoroughly enjoyed. My decision to not contest the next election was a challenging one.
“This job requires a significant time commitment and leaves little room for quality time with friends and family. I am ready to enjoy some well-deserved rest and the opening of a new chapter.”
Among the issues Cr Kunzelmann has taken a lead on are standing up for Chuwar residents in the face of noise and dust issues from the Tivoli Raceway site, ensuring resident concerns were addressed in the assessment of a new childcare centre in Karalee and her strong advocacy for the flood-affected residents of Mihi Grove, Brassall.
“Division 4 has had its fair share of significant community issues this term. I have always listened to my residents, advocated strongly on their behalf, and achieved many positive outcomes for the community,” said Cr Kunzelmann.
“Many of these issues have been complex, challenging and emotionally charged. In these situations, residents are looking for their local councillors to stand up on their behalf and I can confidently say that I have been there for the residents of Division 4.
“While I will be sad to be not serving the community as a councillor, I look forward to new challenges. Along the way, I know I have certainly done my best to deliver,” said Cr Kunzelmann.
