TWO of the city’s most loved sporting facilities are in line for a $18 million funding boost thanks to a tripartite funding arrangement under the SEQ City Deal.

The facilities are Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve and the Tivoli Sports Complex. They have both been submitted to be considered for the money from the SEQ Liveability Fund.

This is a program under the SEQ City Deal that brings together three levels of government to contribute to projects that boost liveability throughout the region.

Mayor Teresa Harding said the funding provided through SEQ Liveability Fund was allocated to local councils based on their population, with the aim of increasing liveability and social cohesion across the region.

“Ipswich City Council can access more than $18 million through the SEQ Liveability Fund to fast-track projects that improve our city’s social amenity, health and wellbeing, and social cohesion,” said Mayor Harding.

“This fund is a great demonstration of governments working together to deliver positive community outcomes, as the funding is co-contributed by the Australian and Queensland governments and local councils.

“Given the significant growth being experienced in Ipswich and the increasing demand for sporting facilities, Council has submitted two proposals to the fund with the aim of boosting our grassroots sporting facilities.”

The proposal will see fields and clubhouse facilities added at Redbank Plains, with a clubhouse expansion also mooted for the Tivoli complex.

If the proposals get the green light, works should begin in mid to late 2024.
