In 1998 the amalgamation of Coalstars FC and St Helens FC created the Ipswich Knights FC.
The Knights operate out of the Bundamba and Ebbw Vale facilities, the former homes of Coalstars and St Helens, keeping their heritage alive.
The club caters for all skill levels in both male and female football competitions. The Senior Men’s program is run by the very experienced Andy Ogden, and the Senior Women’s program by the very capable and accredited up-and-coming coach Jo Ward. The men compete in the Football Queensland Premier League 2 (FQPL 2), while the women compete in the FQPL 1.
The club is committed to the development of Junior and Youth players and has teams competing in the Football Queensland Academy competition in age groups U-9 right through to U-18. In addition, the club has a large number of teams competing in the local community/social divisions in both the female and male competitions.
The Senior Men’s most successful year was 2006 when a youthful side won the championship winning 14 games, drawing 7 games and losing only once in a 22-game season.
The Senior Women won promotion to FQPL 1 in 2023 and under the guidance of Jo Ward and Ian Carson continue to build a female football program at the Knights.
For the majority of the club’s 26 years since amalgamation, the Knights were the leading club in Ipswich.
Now, under the guidance of Andy Ogden, Jo Ward and a very active administration directing the club’s talented coaching team, the Knights are in a “rebuilding” phase to set up a bright future ahead.
