The basketball program at Bremer State High School continues to earn praise with another young athlete being named to represent his state in the Queensland U16 squad.
Year 10 student Zephaniah Teaukai, or Zeph as he is known, is yet another hoops product from the talent-rich Ipswich nursery called up to the national stage.
He has been rewarded due to hard work, building his skillset and dedication to the sport, as Director of Basketball James Ringholt told Local Ipswich News.
“I’m over the moon for Zeph being selected in the U16 Queensland South team that will compete at the Australian Championships in the coming months,” he said.
“Zeph is an exceptionally talented student/athlete.
“I’m thankful for the trust Zeph and his family have placed in me and the Bremer Basketball Academy to further his athletic development.
“Nationals will be an unreal opportunity for Zeph to compete with the best U16 basketball players in the country – of which he is one.”
Ringholt said there was a nursery of rich basketball talent coming from the school, a fact of which he is proud.
“We have 170 students enrolled in the subject of basketball across nine classes,” he said.
“We also have 12 Basketball Academy teams.
“Tristan Afamasaga and Gabriel Narayan both made Met West 17-19 Boys – I coach that team as well.
“Kobi Patrick and Josue Saya in Year 10 are the next big thing behind Zeph.
“We have a 6 foot 6 boy in Year 8 who can dunk.
“Our 7-8 Girls team is the best in the state.
“I know that now but everyone else will find out after junior state champs in term four,” Ringholt said with his trademark confidence.
With continued hard work and grinding on the court to improve his craft, Zeph is sure to continue to shoot high in the sport, but from this basketball nursery growing at Bremer High, he will not be the last to taste success on the hardwood.
