THE ENERGY industry is the way of the future, with the State Government opening up 100 cadetships for high school students to fast-track careers in the electrical and energy field.
The opportunities will allow participants to gain on-the-job experience with formal training attaining a Certificate II in Electrotechnology and a General Safety Induction course (White Card), thanks to a partnership between Ergon Energy, Energex and TAFE Queensland.
“Through the Ergon Energy Network and Energex 2025 Pre-apprenticeship Program, students will learn from experienced TAFE Queensland trainers and Ergon Energy Network and Energex experts during weekly online workshops and on-campus practical days, complemented by real-world experience,” Minister for Training and Skills Development Lance McCallum said.
Cadets will learn a range of skills including essential work, health and safety requirements related to the electrical industry, primary technical skills for the electricity distribution, and the use of multiple power tools and materials, paired with real-world site experience at Ergon Energy Network and Energex depots throughout regional and remote Queensland.
The take-up of the cadetship program has been positive so far, with cadet Clare Parry commenting.
“I chose this program to enhance my knowledge and to increase my opportunities to move forward in my future electrical apprenticeship.”
