WITH the Big Bash season set to begin next month, Ipswich cricketer Jack Wood has signed a one-year deal to return with the Brisbane Heat.

A squad member last season in the Heat’s BBL|13 championship run; he has been added as the 17th contracted player for the side.

He played around the world during the winter, finishing as the third-highest six hitter in the Cayman Islands MAX60 T10 tournament, and representing Australia in the recent Hong Kong International Sixes tournament.

In that Sixes Tournament earlier this month, he had a highest score of 55 not out from 16 balls when Australia was knocked out in the semi-final by Pakistan.

The 28-year-old is an Ipswich product, having begun his cricket career playing for Ipswich Grammar School.

From 2010 he linked up with Laidley Under-16s side, earning his selection for the Queensland Under-15s side.

In 2012 he achieved recognition for taking 4-76 with the ball in a two-day game for Queensland Country Under-19s.

He also played for Laidley in the Ipswich Logan Premier League and the Ipswich Grammar School 1st XI.

Allrounder Wood made his debut for the Brisbane Heat as a Local Replacement Player in 2020 during the pandemic.

In that match he had a standout performance, taking the wicket of Ben Dunk with his very first ball.

Last year, Wood was a stand-out for Ipswich in the KFC T20 Max competition, finishing as the joint leading runs-scorer with 379 runs at 54.14 with a strike-rate of 160.59, and topped the stats chart with the most sixes across the league with 24.

He also earned international headlines with a player of the match innings of 101 not out from 59 balls for the Northern Territory as they defeated Pakistan ‘A’ in Darwin in the final of the Top End Series in August.

For the Heat, he has played two matches, his 24 balls taking two wickets for 41 runs at an economy of 10.25.
