HEADING into the Australian All Schools Competition at QSAC last weekend, the Ipswich Athletics Club hopes were high, and the athletes exceed them all.
Diva Ejembi took gold as she did at the Queensland All Schools Championships last month in the U14 women’s high jump, improving her personal best from 1.59m to 1.68m.
At last month’s competition, Dakota Stewart won triple gold in the U17 800m, 2000m Steeplechase and as a member of the 1600m medley relay.
Last weekend Stewart bagged silver in the U17 Men’s 800m while improving his personal best time, clocking 1:52.52.
His run in the event was impressive, coming from nowhere to finish second, pipping Victorian Avery McDermid (1:52.55).
Hudson Severinsen added to the medal haul for the association last weekend after throwing a personal best 52.14m in the U14 hammer throw 3kg.
President Vic Pascoe told Local Ipswich News the club currently had 160 members on the books in a great sign for the future of track and field.
That is two months into the new season, with the peak number of members being in March, with Mr Pascoe predicting those numbers to crack 200.
Other achievements for Ipswich products across the three days of the Australian All Schools Athletics championships were highlighted by Gout Gout running the 100m dash in a record- breaking 10.17 seconds.
Running five events in 24 hours, the Ipswich Grammar star would become the fastest Australian over the 200m on Saturday, breaking a record that stood for 56 years.
The 100m showcase also included Gout’s stablemate at Ipswich Grammar School, Jonathan Kasiano.
Kasiano’s time of 10.60 seconds was a season best effort.
Ipswich Grammar School also had another star on show in Harrison Purcell who took gold in the U18 100m hurdles, racing to a season best 13.51secs.
