THE Dinmore Bush Rats Soccer Club is an Ipswich sporting institution, boasting more than 130 years of tradition and recognised as one of our city’s oldest and most storied clubs.

Preparing for another exciting season as registrations continue to soar, club president Scott Morrison said an exciting season lay ahead.

With more than 250 registered players last year, the club is on track to surpass that number in 2025.

Mr Morrison played as a junior for the Bush Rats in the 1980s and in 2018 led its revival back from a hiatus spanning more than two decades, starting with just 23 members.

This amazing revival was recognised with the club receiving awards including Organisation of the Year at the 2019 City of Ipswich Sport Awards and Mr Morrison named Volunteer of the Year at the region’s pinnacle awards for sport.

Mr Morrison himself has become a well-known face in the Ipswich sporting fabric and a vocal voice for kids getting involved in sport.

Today, the club has grown into a thriving community focused on inclusivity, equality, and fostering a love of the game.

“We’re more than just a soccer club,” Mr Morrison said.

“We provide a place where everyone is treated like family, regardless of their ability, gender, race, or religion.

“The smiles on the kids’ faces and the trophies in our cabinet are a testament to our values of fun, fitness, and friendship and the result of how we operate.”

The club offers free registration for junior players up to 18 years with a valid Fair Play voucher, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent young athletes from enjoying the sport.

This season, the Bush Rats are actively recruiting players for the U/14 mixed team, U/15-16 boys’ team, and Over 40s men’s team.

As part of ongoing efforts to introduce young children to soccer, the club is hosting a special “Come and try it” day this Friday from 5.30- 6.30pm at 66 Riverview Rd, Riverview.

The session is open to children aged six to eight who are interested in signing up and experiencing the sport first-hand.
