FILMING has begun on Falling In Slow Motion, a five-part mini-series directed by Ipswich filmmaker Sarah Dinsey, showcasing local talent and iconic locations across the city.

The project has been in development since 2018, with Dinsey expressing her excitement about finally bringing the story to life.

“I’ve been fighting to get this pilot made since 2023, and it wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of my friends, family, cast, crew, and local businesses,” she told Local Ipswich News.

With backing from The Australian Culture Fund and GoFundMe supporters, Falling In Slow Motion is Dinsey’s most personal work, drawing from her own experiences with chronic illness.

Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 30, she hopes the series resonates with others facing similar struggles.

“I wanted to create a love story for people who are sick like me – to show them they are worthy and valuable no matter what their body or mind tells them,” she said.

The series follows Nate, a charming womaniser who changes his ways after falling for Joni, a chronically ill woman.

The character of Nate is inspired by Dinsey’s first love, who tragically died during the early stages of production.

“Losing him was the worst heartache I’ve ever known, and I couldn’t continue working on it for a while,” she said.

“But my friends and crew encouraged me to revisit the story.

“Now, it’s about acceptance, second chances, and the power of human connection.”

The series will feature well-known actors, including Neighbours star James Mason, Lawrence Ola (STEP ONE, Sleeping Duck commercials), Jay Anthony Franke (California Dreams), and homegrown acting dynamo Kristen Barros.

Filming will take place at local landmarks such as Stony Creek Brewing Co, 88 Limestone Street, RSL Memorial Park, Ungermann Brothers, and Banshees Bar & Artspace.

With Falling In Slow Motion, Dinsey hopes to put Ipswich on the map as a creative hub, while delivering a heartfelt and inspiring story.
