TUCKED away just 20 minutes from Ipswich’s city centre, the Walloon Hotel is continuing to evolve, offering more than just hearty country meals.
With a brand-new kids’ play area and a freshly revamped outdoor dining space, it’s now an even more appealing destination for families and food lovers alike.
It’s the kind of place where you’re encouraged to slow down, settle in and savour the experience.
The venue still proudly features its popular classic menu items, but with the recent addition of a few standout newcomers.
One dish is the 5 Mile Massaman, recommended by co-owner Stuart, who – along with his warm, attentive staff – creates a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
I visited on a rainy Thursday afternoon, the kind of day that calls for comfort food, and the 5 Mile Massaman didn’t disappoint.
The dish featured a generous portion of pork belly, beautifully cooked to a tender finish, served atop a bed of roasted chat potatoes and vibrant greens.
What truly elevated it was the Massaman curry sauce – a rich, aromatic blend that offered all the warmth and complexity you’d expect from the Thai favourite.
Beyond the food, the new outdoor dining area adds another layer of appeal.
Whether you’re catching up with friends, bringing the kids out for a treat, or just looking for a cosy spot to enjoy a meal, the setting is relaxed and inviting. It’s a space that encourages conversation, connection, and second helpings.
The Walloon Hotel continues to blend country charm with culinary comfort.
Walloon Hotel is located at 1 Queen St, Walloon and is open 10am-2am daily.
