Warrego woes far from over as upgrade drags on

Wendy Bourne Urges Urgent Mount Crosby Upgrade

WHILE a section of wind turbine struck Mount Crosby Road overpass with disastrous results, first-term MP Wendy Bourne struck gold with her timing in parliament last week.

Bourne stood in the house before the incident happened to hint at impending doom of worsening traffic congestion if work didn’t start immediately to upgrade the overpass.

In a media release last Thursday, only hours before the Warrego was thrown into chaos on Friday, the Member for Ipswich West repeated her statements.

She reminded us funding of $42.5 million had been committed by the previous Labor state government, and the federal government stumped up $177 million.

“It’s time to stop the blame game and get on with it. Our community deserves better,” Bourne said. State Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg visited the incident site on Saturday to witness the damage firsthand.

We can only hope he will now make the upgrade his top priority and get work started immediately on this long-delayed project.

Australia’s three levels of government don’t always work in our favour. It’s not the most efficient in funding major road projects.

When money is allocated and nothing happens, it’s no surprise voters can be a tad cynical.

The other time bomb awaiting unsuspecting motorists is the nearby old Bremer River bridge.

Call me suspicious, but I don’t think TMR has come clean yet on how this will be executed without massive traffic disruptions.
