THE skies above RAAF Base Amberley roared into action as powerful Australian Army Chinook helicopters lifted heavy artillery into the air during a military training exercise showcasing the nation’s rapid deployment capabilities.
Soldiers from the 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, joined forces with the 5th Aviation Regiment to demonstrate how the Australian Defence Force could rapidly transport heavy weaponry into challenging operational environments.
The exercise, conducted by the Australian Army’s 7th Brigade, featured CH-47F Chinook helicopters carrying artillery systems suspended beneath the aircraft in specialised operations known as underslung load training.
The manoeuvres demonstrated the Army’s ability to move heavy firepower quickly across difficult terrain, providing commanders with greater flexibility when responding to emerging threats or rapidly changing battlefield conditions.
The exercise highlighted how Australian forces could deploy critical equipment into areas where conventional ground transport might be restricted.
