A new judo club has arrived in Peak Crossing, giving Scenic Rim residents the chance to learn the popular martial art while building strength, discipline and community spirit.
Scenic Rim Judo officially launched on July 14, holding its first session at Peak Crossing Hall on Fassifern St.
The club has already welcomed eight junior members and three seniors, with organiser Nick Andjelkovic eager to see the group grow.
Classes are held every Monday night during school terms, with sessions split by age: juniors (5-13 years) start at 5.45pm, followed by seniors (13 and over) at 6.45pm.
The first lesson is free for newcomers.
Mr Andjelkovic, a first-degree black belt, has been involved in judo since he was three years old, introduced to the sport by his father Serg, a fourth-degree black belt, veteran national champion and international referee. Both father and son are national kata champions.
“After moving to the Scenic Rim, I wanted to bring the sport I’ve practised for so many years to the local community,” Mr Andjelkovic said.
“Our slogan is Build, Learn and Belong – we’re not just teaching judo techniques, we’re fostering resilience, friendship and a sense of belonging.”
While the club is still in its early days, there are plans to expand with more training nights and possibly new locations across the Scenic Rim.
“Judo teaches discipline, mental resilience, flexibility and strength,” Mr Andjelkovic said.
“There are even pathways to international events and the Olympics for those who dream big. But above all, we want to build a strong, family-friendly judo community here in Peak Crossing.”
Anyone interested in joining or learning more about the program can contact the club for details.
