YOUNG motocross racer Jake Knighton has returned home with a national podium place after competing in his first Australian title event in Gillman, South Australia.
The 10-year-old, who lined up in both the 65cc and 85cc (9-12 years) classes, said last week didn’t unfold exactly as planned.
“I came to race two classes, but unfortunately, I did the bottom end on my 85 in my first heat, which meant all my focus went to the 65cc,” Knighton said.
Over the gruelling five-day championship, he battled through three heats and three finals to finish third overall in Australia in the 65cc class.
“Even better, I got to share the podium with two great mates – Nate and fellow Queensland teammate Joe,” he said. “This whole experience has left me hungry for so much more!”
The podium finish capped off a milestone year for Knighton, who in September was selected as part of the 16-rider team to represent Queensland at the Australian Junior Motocross Championship.
“Aussie titles are like nothing I have ever experienced before,” he said. “I felt nervous at first but then got stuck in, trying to learn and absorb everything the week had to offer. I’ve been working hard with my coaches from 00eliteridertraining all year, so I was keen to see what I could do.”
With one national podium already under his belt, Knighton is already looking ahead to 2026.
