THE Ipswich Climate Action Group (ICAG) has named community arts advocate Glen Smith as its first-ever honorary member, recognising his outstanding contribution to the arts, environment, and local community.

Glen, who serves as President of Ipswich ArtsConnect and owns the well-known Vintage Advantage store, has long been a driving force in promoting creativity and sustainability across the region. Known for his infectious enthusiasm and can-do attitude, he has played a major role in connecting the arts with environmental awareness.

ICAG said the group was proud to recognise Glen’s ongoing support.

“Glen has been instrumental in helping us share our message about the importance of climate action,” a spokesperson said.

“He’s not only supported us behind the scenes but rolled up his sleeves and joined in on countless events and projects.”

Through his leadership of ArtsConnect, Glen has helped bring artists and environmental advocates together for community initiatives such as the Trashion Parade, the Saving Mel and Leuca artists’ day at D’Arcy Doyle Place, and the Sustainable Living Art Competition as part of the Ipswich City Council’s Sustainability Festival.

Glen has also amplified ICAG’s work through his media platforms – featuring the group on West Bremer Community Radio and writing about their projects in his popular Ipswich weekly column, Get Your Arts into Gear.

His creative spirit even extended to the stage, where he played The Heckler in ICAG’s The Solar Citizens’ Wedding of Ms Solar Power to Mr Battery at the Sustainability Festival.

The honorary membership recognises Glen’s ongoing dedication to community collaboration and sustainability through the arts.

“Glen is one of those people who makes things happen,” an ICAG spokesperson said.

“His energy, generosity, and belief in community action make him a true inspiration.”
