AS Christmas leftovers disappear from the fridge, the tinsel is packed away and Australia’s male cricketers celebrate a dominant Boxing Day Test, Ipswich is already turning its attention to the next big moment on the festive calendar – New Year’s Eve.

The city will farewell 2025 and welcome 2026 with a night of fireworks, family-friendly celebrations and live entertainment across multiple suburbs on Wednesday, December 31.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the joy and community spirit generated by the Christmas in Ipswich festival would continue through to the final night of the year.

“So take off your Santa hat and put on your party hat, because we’re keeping the festivities going with an epic night of New Year’s Eve celebrations in Ipswich,” she said.

Economic and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said all fireworks displays across the city would begin at 9pm, making the celebrations accessible for families with young children.

He said the earlier start time allowed children to be part of the countdown while still enjoying a family-friendly atmosphere.
