A grassroots community push to keep the Rosewood Anzac Aquatic Centre open year-round has gained real momentum, with State Member for Ipswich West Wendy Bourne formally lodging a petition with Ipswich City Council calling for an end to the pool’s seasonal closure.
For decades, the much-loved Rosewood pool has closed from April to September, leaving families, seniors, school groups and swim clubs without a local aquatic facility for almost five months of the year.
With around 12 weeks remaining before the next winter shutdown, residents say time is running out for Council to act.
The petition, supported by more than 200 signatures, reflects strong and growing concern across Rosewood.
Locals say the closure forces people to travel out of town just to keep swimming, exercising, attending lessons or maintaining social connections built around the pool.
Ms Bourne said the issue has come up repeatedly at her mobile offices and community events.
“Rosewood residents have made it clear that this pool is not a seasonal luxury – it’s a vital community asset,” she said.
“Families, seniors, school children and local swim clubs rely on this facility, not just in summer, but all year.”
Ms Bourne also pointed out that Rosewood is the only community in the Ipswich region facing this situation.
“Every other public swimming pool in Ipswich operates year-round,” she said.
The MP has now asked Council for a clear response and timeline on the future operation of the Rosewood Anzac Aquatic Centre and says she will continue advocating until a solution is delivered.
