DENZEL Kennedy’s return to the Ipswich Force for the 2026 NBL1 North season is more than just a signing – it is a clear statement of intent as the club builds around leaders who define its on-court edge and community- first identity.
A respected figure within the Force program, Kennedy has earned a reputation not only for his on-court production, but for the leadership, consistency and energy he brings to the group.
“I love playing in Ipswich – it feels like a second home at this stage,” Kennedy said.“I’m very excited to hoop with my mates again this year.”
Across recent NBL1 seasons, Kennedy has been a reliable contributor, valued for his ability to influence games at both ends of the floor.
Whether creating offence, applying defensive pressure or lifting teammates with his trademark intensity, he has remained a steady presence in the rotation.
Head coach Colby Stefanovic said Kennedy’s impact extended well beyond the stat sheet.
“It’s great to have Denzel back into our team for 2026,” Stefanovic said.
“He has been a huge part of our community for so long, and he always brings that energy that a group needs day in and day out.”
Kennedy’s return provides valuable continuity as the Force blend experienced campaigners with emerging local talent. His familiarity with the club’s systems and standards is expected to help set the tone through preseason and into the campaign proper.
Ipswich basketball identity Calvin Hegvold said the signing would deliver benefits both on and off the court.
“Denzel is one of the guys that sets the tone in the Force program,” Hegvold said.
“He’s respected in the basketball community beyond the four walls of our stadium, but his competitiveness, love for the game, and respect for others who love it, is what stands out.
“Very happy he’s back in Force colours again this season.”
Away from game nights, Kennedy has also become a recognisable figure within the Ipswich basketball community, regularly engaging with juniors, supporters and club programs – a connection that has helped cement his popularity with fans.
With preparations for 2026 already underway, the Force view Kennedy’s recommitment as another positive step toward building a competitive, connected squad ready to challenge in the NBL1 Men’s competition.
The Force finished just outside the playoffs last season, placing seventh with seven wins and seven losses from 14 games, and will be eager to turn that consistency into a finals push this year.
