IT’S never been more important to celebrate where our food comes from, and there’s no better way to do that than on the Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trail, returning on Sunday, March 29.

This much-anticipated event invites visitors to slow down, take the scenic route and reconnect with the people, places and produce that make the Scenic Rim one of Queensland’s most celebrated food regions.

On this special day, farmers, growers, winemakers, brewers, distillers and flavour-makers from across the region throw open their gates and welcome visitors behind the scenes of their farms and businesses.

The reward is not just an esky full of local produce, but a deeper appreciation for the Scenic Rim and the people who call it home.

The March trail features 24 farm gates and on-farm experiences, including two exciting newcomers joining the lineup.

Northview Highlands is opening its gates for the first time. This family-run farm is home to shaggy Highland cattle, striking Valais Blacknose sheep and charming – and sometimes cheeky – pygmy goats.

Known for its ethical breeding practices and hands-on experiences, Northview Highlands offers visitors the chance to get up close with heritage breeds, hear heartfelt stories from the people behind the farm, and enjoy genuine country hospitality in a beautiful rural setting.

Also joining the trail is Boonah Brewing Co, the region’s newest brewery, located at the historic Commercial Hotel in Boonah.

Visitors are invited to step behind the scenes with free brewery tours to sample locally crafted beers, with the option to linger longer thanks to accommodation packages designed especially for Farm Gate Trail visitors.

Another new highlight this March is the debut of the hay bale maze at Elia’s Garden, adding a playful, family-friendly element set against stunning mountain backdrops.

Across the Scenic Rim, the day unfolds as a celebration of abundance and variety. Visitors can expect overflowing larders and paddock-to-plate produce, from freshly picked fruit and vegetables to artisan cheeses, milk and honey, olives, garlic, jams and chutneys made with care.

Tastings of wine, gin, beer and cider are paired with farm walks, animal encounters, flower fields, live music and picnic spots beside creeks and vineyards.

There are lamb pats and alpaca cuddles, goat giggles and camel encounters, all woven together by big skies, fresh country air and winding roads that invite exploration.

Located just over an hour from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trail is the perfect excuse for a leisurely day trip or an easy weekend escape.

The trail offers a chance to reconnect with the land, support local producers and enjoy the simple pleasure of food grown and made close to home.

Free registration is required for the Scenic Rim Farm Gate Trail, with maps, itineraries and booking information available via Destination Scenic Rim.
