THE Ipswich community is continuing to rally around the family of seven-year-old Adior Kuer Akech Keer following her tragic drowning at Colleges Crossing.

Emergency services were called after the young girl went missing while swimming at the popular Colleges Crossing Recreational Reserve on Bobby Auld Drive in Chuwar on April 11, sparking a large-scale search involving police, divers and members of the public.

Despite desperate efforts from bystanders and authorities, police divers made the devastating discovery about 10.30pm that evening.

Adior is being remembered as a shy, caring and remarkably mature young girl who was always considerate of others.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding expressed her heartbreak at the tragedy, describing the loss as deeply felt across the community.

“A very sad tragedy to hear the passing of beautiful seven-year-old Adior after a drowning incident at Colleges Crossing,” Mayor Harding said.

“Despite the best efforts of the community in the area at the time, police divers made the devastating discovery about 10.30pm on Saturday night. My prayers are with Adior’s family and friends – it is truly a devastating tragedy for her family and our community.”

Adior’s older brother, Akech, was taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition after calling for help as the incident unfolded, with bystanders immediately rushing in to try and save her.

In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by family member Nyimeda Macham.

It aims to help cover funeral costs and support Adior’s grieving parents.

Ms Macham said the fundraiser was created on behalf of the family during what she described as their “darkest moment”.

“Our hearts are shattered as we share the devastating loss of Adior Kuer Akech Keer,” she said.

“No parent should ever endure such unimaginable pain.”

“Earlier that day, a large-scale search and rescue operation was launched after Adior went missing while swimming at the Colleges Crossing Recreational Reserve.

“We held onto hope as police, divers, and community members worked tirelessly to find her.

“Tragically, shortly before 10.30pm that same evening, police divers located and recovered Adior’s body.”

Ms Macham said the family was now facing significant financial hardship as they prepared to lay their daughter to rest.

“All funds raised will go directly towards Adior’s funeral arrangements and to support her grieving family as they navigate the days ahead,” she said.

As of Monday the target of $15,000 has been reached.
