IPSWICH State High School’s rugby league program has officially launched its 2026 season, marking the start of another year of competition for one of Queensland’s most established and successful school rugby league pathways.
The event brought together students, families, staff, sponsors, alumni and community supporters, highlighting the continued strength, culture and growth of a program that now involves around 400 student athletes across boys’ and girls’ teams competing across multiple age groups and divisions.
The launch showcased the program’s strong development pathways, with recognition of former students progressing into elite rugby league environments.
A standout moment of the evening was the return of former school captain Shalom Sauaso, now an NRLW Premiership winner and NRLW Rookie of the Year.
Sauaso addressed players and spoke about the impact the program had on her development.
Captains from across all year levels were presented with their 2026 playing jerseys, officially ushering in the new season.
The program also acknowledged current and former students who have gone on to represent Queensland, Samoa and the NRLW, reinforcing its reputation as a consistent pathway to higher honours.
Beyond on-field performance, staff highlighted the program’s continued emphasis on academic achievement, personal development and life skills.
Data shared on the night reinforced that rugby league students continue to perform strongly in attendance, behaviour, effort and classroom outcomes alongside their sporting commitments.
A key announcement for the 2026 season confirmed that the school’s premier boys’ and girls’ teams will play home fixtures on Hunter Street while North Ipswich Reserve undergoes redevelopment.
