THE Ipswich Men’s Shed in Bundamba is buzzing most mornings, but President Terry Carter says the real magic isn’t just in the whirr of machinery, it’s in the company.

Mr Carter, who has been leading the shed’s operations for several years, said the group continued to grow as more local men discovered the benefits of working side by side in a supportive, social environment.

The shed offers a wide range of activities, with woodworking and metalwork topping the list of favourites. Members also take part in gardening, painting, art sessions and even more modern pursuits such as CNC machining, laser cutting and 3D printing.

“We’ve got our own kitchen here too,” Mr Carter said.

“We provide morning teas and meals, so it’s a real social hub as much as a workshop.”

While the tools and projects are a big drawcard, Mr Carter said the shed’s deeper purpose was connection.

“Men come in here for company, to work side by side with other men,” he said.

“It gets them out of the house, talking, socialising. That’s what really matters.”

Members can bring their own projects or pitch in on community work and participate in the morning tea and lunches.

For anyone thinking about joining, Mr Carter’s message is simple.

“Pop in, have a wander around. We’ll show you what we do and see if it suits you.”

The Bundamba Men’s Shed continues to be a place where skills are shared and friendships are built.
