A lifetime dedicated to supporting men and their families through one of life’s toughest diagnoses has earned Ipswich community champion Dennis Ellis the highest individual honour awarded by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Mr Ellis has been presented with the prestigious Max Gardner Award, recognising his outstanding contribution to reducing the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners and families.
The award is the foundation’s most distinguished individual accolade and celebrates volunteers who have made an exceptional difference through advocacy, education and support.
State Member for Ipswich West Wendy Bourne congratulated Mr Ellis on the national recognition, describing him as a tireless advocate whose compassion and commitment had transformed countless lives across the community.
“I was incredibly proud to support Dennis’s nomination for this award and delighted to see him recognised on the national stage,” Ms Bourne said.
“Dennis has dedicated countless hours to raising awareness about prostate cancer and men’s health.”
As Convenor of the Ipswich Prostate Cancer Support Group, Mr Ellis has spent years walking alongside local men and their families following a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Ms Bourne said his empathy and willingness to help others had left a lasting legacy within the community.
“Dennis has been a source of strength and support for so many people,” she said.
