Haigslea State School will mark a major milestone later this month, with the community preparing to celebrate 150 years of learning, local history and shared memories.
The anniversary event, held on August 29, is expected to draw a large crowd of past and present students, families, staff and neighbours who have long considered the school a cornerstone of the Haigslea district.
Organisers say the day will offer something for everyone, blending old-fashioned charm with plenty of family friendly fun.
Rides, market stalls, live music and sideshow alley games will fill the school grounds, while a mega raffle promises dozens of prizes.
Food will be a major drawcard, with a BBQ, bake stall, fairy floss, popcorn, slushies and traditional damper available throughout the day.
A highlight of the celebration will be the historical displays charting Haigslea State School’s journey since its establishment in 1876.
Old photographs, class records and memorabilia will sit alongside artwork created by current students, offering a vivid contrast between the school’s early years and the modern classrooms of today.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the unveiling of a time capsule buried 25 years ago.
Community members say they are eager to see what students and staff in 2001 believed was important enough to preserve for future generations.
The day will also include a special luncheon for past students aged over 70, an idea that has already received overwhelming support.
