IPSWICH’S historic railway workshops have become a classroom for the future, with local students getting a hands-on introduction to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Year 9, 10 and 11 students from Bellbird Park State Secondary College spent three days at the Queensland Museum Rail Workshops as part of the inaugural Intensive Learning Program, connecting the city’s industrial past with the technologies and careers of tomorrow.
Held during National Science Week, the program is the first major education initiative delivered through a new three-year partnership between Queensland Museum and the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).
Students explored manufacturing, power and transport through hands-on activities, museum experiences, engineering and technology sessions and career development workshops led by UniSQ academics and educators.
