WOUNDED Heroes Australia has been announced as the official charity for Willowbank Raceway for the coming year.

With the new partnership being close to many of the staff, volunteers and racers within drag racing, the venue is set to announce fundraising opportunities for the national organisation, which assists serviceman and women.

The charity is aimed at assisting deployed personnel, the wounded and their families, principally done by providing short-term emergency relief payments to individuals and their families.

“As a team, we decided to show our support for Australian servicemen and women by branding our car with “Support Our Troops” signage,” Willowbank Raceway chairman Tony Wedlock said.

“With Willowbank Raceway located next to Amberley air base, and with Brisbane and Ipswich home to many members of all branches of our armed services, this new association is a fantastic idea to support all of these great young heroes.”

The raceway will hold several fundraisers over the next 12 months, aiming to make a significant impact on the Wounded Heroes program nationally.

“Once we met with Martin Shaw from Wounded Heroes, we felt the need to make a difference,” raceway CEO Peter Beaumont added.

“As an ex-serviceman myself, I could see the fantastic work performed by this great organisation.

“It is work that is essential support for our ex-servicemen and women, and something we cannot take for granted. My thanks goes out to these great people,”

Mr Shaw, president of Wounded Heroes Australia, thanked Willowbank Raceway for the partnership.

“I look forward to working with this great venue in a true partnership,” he said.

“I can already see that their hearts are behind our organisation, and know that the partnership will make a difference to our support goals.”

Wounded Heroes Australia does whatever it takes to fund support services for deployed personnel, the wounded and their families.

Willowbank Raceway offers a year-round program of drag racing entertainment for the family.
