FROM a Brassall shed to a team of nine, Ipswich Solar and Electrical has grown with the next generation joining the tools.

A search for ways to cut his household electricity bill set Darren Rosolak on a path to building a family business that now employs nine people and handles more than 90 per cent of its solar and battery installations in-house.

What began as Ipswich Solar Power in a Brassall shed in 2010 has grown into Ipswich Solar and Electrical, with Darren and his wife Shelley now working alongside their sons, Ben and Jordan.

Darren’s background was in sales, but researching solar options for his own home convinced him of the technology’s value and the opportunity to establish a local business.

The original team comprised Darren, Shelley and a receptionist, with a small group of trusted local contractors completing installations.

Those early relationships helped the business establish its reputation, combining the personal service of a family operation with local installation expertise. As the business developed, bringing that expertise into its own team became an important next step.

Following extensive preparation and planning, Ben and Jordan joined in March and April 2025 as fully qualified electricians, becoming the company’s first full-time electrical tradespeople.

Their arrival, along with the business gaining its electrical contractor licence, marked a new chapter and prompted the change of name to Ipswich Solar and Electrical.

Both sons are now qualified solar and battery electricians, helping the company take greater responsibility for its installations. Having previously subcontracted all solar and battery work, the business now completes more than 90 per cent itself, with one trusted local contractor handling the remainder.

The team grew from three employees to nine in less than 12 months, including two apprentices, expanding its capacity while creating opportunities for others to learn the trade.

For the Rosolak family, that growth has been about building a team capable of supporting customers through every stage of the job. Clear communication, personalised service and after-sales follow-up remain central to the business as solar and battery technology continues to advance.

Product research is another priority. The team examines available products, brands and suppliers before recommending options to prospective and existing customers, with an emphasis on quality.

From Darren’s first questions about powering his own home to Ben and Jordan installing systems for other households, the business has retained a strong family connection. Its next chapter is being built by two generations working together, supported by a growing local team.
