WE are certainly a fickle negative bunch aren’t we? One day we are complaining about all the rain, then when it stops and our grass turns brown we look to the skies for rain and complain about the hot weather.
It seems that we all like to have a whinge, whether it’s about the weather, the local council, the poor service we got at the local store or that noisy dog next door.
Too many of us look for negatives in life rather than appreciating all the positives.
Every day we wake up should be a day we celebrate. Too few of us do.
Mahatma Gandhi said “each night, when I go to sleep, I die. And the next morning. When I wake up, I am reborn.”
How many of us get out of bed feeling positive about the day ahead, not many I would hazard a guess.
Social media has given us an uncensored hot line where we can vent and carry on as we like.
Many “sour with life souls” lock themselves away in darkened bedrooms and tap away on their laptop slandering anyone and everyone at will.
Forget about having a reason or evidence, they just go for it to try and destroy the person or organisation they hate.
Social media has great benefits in keeping us informed like never before, but it certainly also has some drawbacks.
The greatest is the amount of bullying that goes on, especially in regards students attacking a fellow pupil without any concern about the effect the words and sometimes photos they post will have.
Unfortunately, most parents have no idea what their child is posting or what is getting posted about them until its sometimes too late.
It’s time for all parents to turn up their social media watch and to say to their children I’d like to be your friend on social media.
If they refuse I’d say you may have an issue that you need to sit down and discuss and I’d be talking about it today, not tomorrow.
Will it be a difficult conversation to have? Yes in many cases it will be, but its too important not to at least try.
I’m just glad my daughter has finished her schooling because she had to confront social media bullies.
Fortunately, she had someone by her side, her parents.
