APPRENTICES and trainees are set to benefit from a statewide campaign highlighting pathways to practical skills, employment, and career opportunities.

The initiative comes as National Apprenticeship Week, running from 9 to 15 February, aims to connect jobseekers with apprenticeships and support communities through a stronger, skilled workforce.

The Apprenticeships Deliver campaign promotes opportunities for apprentices and employers alike, showing how training translates into real jobs across industries such as construction, manufacturing, automotive, and community services. Tens of thousands of Queenslanders are already earning while they learn, contributing to essential sectors and local communities.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen training and workforce participation, the government has committed $40 million in 2025–26 for apprenticeship and training initiatives, bringing total investment to $270 million. Another $19 million will fund the Small Business Apprenticeship Pilot Program, helping small and family construction businesses cover apprentice wage costs.

$201 million will go toward four new TAFE Centres of Excellence in priority industries, including construction and manufacturing, while Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s across 130 priority qualifications have already seen more than 16,100 places taken up in 2024–25.

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said National Apprenticeship Week was an opportunity to recognise the hard work of apprentices and the vital role they play in building Queensland’s workforce.

Minister for Small and Family Business Steven Minnikin said the Small Business Apprenticeship Pilot Program would support local employers while helping apprentices gain practical skills.

“For many small and family businesses, taking on an apprentice is a significant decision that affects cash flow and productivity,” he said.

MIGAS Chief Executive David Hoey said strong support for National Apprenticeship Week reflected growing demand for skilled pathways into work.

“National Apprenticeship Week brings together industry, education and employment to promote apprenticeships and those who support them,” he said.
