TIME OUT: Ipswich Artsconnect members at their annual Artist Retreat

LAST weekend Artsconnect members and friends came together at Moogerah Dam for their annual Artist Retreat for two days of creating, painting, relaxing and most importantly friendship.

Over the weekend I realised that one of the main reasons I paint is to make many new and wonderful friends through my art journey.

As an adult, if you’ve ever tried to make new friends you’ll probably realise just how hard it is and I guess this is why loneliness is at an all-time high.

Making new friends can feel difficult and stressful.

As a child, making friends can be as simple as going to the park or joining a sporting club. But as mature age adults, making, developing and maintaining friendships can be much more difficult.

This is a serious matter as loneliness can slowly engulf us and cause many health and mental issues.

For this reason, art groups such as Artsconnect Ipswich, Ipswich Art Society, Marburg Art Group and Rosewood Art Group are so important to our community as they offer a safe, cheap, without judgement and inclusive place for people to come together and talk, learn, create and if just for a short time have the joy of friendship brighten their darkest days.

So even though art isn’t the cure for loneliness it is the reason for people to come together and the art is a by-product of friendship.

As the president of Artsconnect Ipswich I see more and more people reaching out to our group not because of the art but to connect with someone.

You can find more information about Artsconnect Ipswich, the Ipswich Art Society, Marburg and Rosewood Art Groups on their Websites and Facebook pages.
