Once again our athletes have shone at State and National levels.

Karalee runner Jude Thomas who is just 20 years of age continues to perform at the highest level winning back to back 3000m national titles.

Jude is one of a number of home grown athletes that could be competing in our home Olympics.

Charlize Goody and Toby Stolberg from Ipswich District Athletics have won many state and national age medals.

The Queensland Academy of Sport has chosen them and their coaches for their elite support program.

This is an outstanding accolade as only three awards were given in Queensland.

Gout Gout from Ipswich Grammar is another star in the making, breaking the State U18 100m record, at the age of 15.

He also won the 200m title. His coach Di Shepard from Athletic Pathways enjoyed great success at the recent state titles with her 15 athletes taking out 10 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals.

It’s amazing to think that our national and state athletic champions train at the cross country track and field track at Limestone Park.

It is time our city had a tartan track, to give our locals a decent facility to train and compete on,

Congratulations also to Rosewood born Byron Davies who won the Australian Cycling National time trial at the Anna Meares Velodrome on Saturday night.

Well done to Byron who is now riding with the Queensland Academy of Sport team.
