A hot cuppa is now delivering more than comfort – it’s opening doors to brighter futures for people doing it tough in Ipswich.
Local not-for-profit inCommunity Inc has officially launched Bean on the Move – a freshly revamped outreach van serving barista-style coffee, warm meals and genuine human connection to people experiencing homelessness in the region.
Thanks to a generous grant from Enterprise & Training Company (ETC)’s Community Support Fund and an in-kind contribution from The Mobile Coffee Group, the inCommunity Connect Assertive Outreach Team now has an upgraded vehicle fitted with a commercial coffee machine, fridge and microwave.
More than just a van, Bean on the Move is a mobile meeting place – providing warmth, nourishment and support to those sleeping rough.
It allows the outreach team to offer hot drinks and meals while having meaningful conversations about housing and support pathways.
Deputy CEO of inCommunity Inc, Nerissa Wade, said the new fit-out was already making a difference.
“Bean on the Move brings people together,” she said.
“It gives us a way to connect in a more personal, welcoming way – offering a warm drink and a listening ear, while helping people find a pathway to safe and stable housing,” she said.
The unveiling of the upgraded van comes just in time for National Homelessness Week (August 4-10), a time to raise awareness and recognise the organisations and communities working together to create solutions.
ETC Board Chair Rod McKelvey said projects like this embodied ETC’s commitment to building stronger communities.
“This isn’t just about funding – it’s about partnerships, purpose and people,” he said.
“We’re proud to support organisations like inCommunity who are creating lasting, local impact.”
Beyond a good coffee and a warm meal, Bean on the Move brings renewed hope to people who need it most.
It’s a visible, practical expression of care – and a powerful tool for connection.
Since 1982, inCommunity Inc has grown into a leading provider of housing and homelessness support, helping more than 13,000 people in the past year alone.
With programs spanning crisis accommodation, food relief, tenancy skills and mobile health services, inCommunity is committed to empowering individuals and strengthening the Ipswich community.
