FEDERAL Member for Blair Shayne Neumann has launched a scathing attack on the Queensland State Budget, claiming Ipswich and the Somerset region have once again been overlooked, with key infrastructure projects delayed or left unfunded.
Mr Neumann said the Budget represented “another missed opportunity” for one of Queensland’s fastest-
growing regions, accusing the State Government of sacrificing Ipswich projects to fund priorities elsewhere.
“In an appalling act, the LNP State Government has cut funding from the Mount Crosby Road Interchange upgrade, with $170 million for the project pushed out beyond the forward estimates past 2029-30,” Mr Neumann said.
“They need to explain what has happened to the money and when they plan to deliver this much-needed upgrade for the Ipswich region. They need to restore the funding and get moving to deliver this vital project.”
Mr Neumann said funding for the interchange had already been secured under a partnership between the Albanese Government and the former Queensland Labor Government, with each committing $138.5 million towards the $277 million project.
He also criticised the State Government for failing to match the Federal Government’s $200 million commitment towards the Amberley Interchange upgrade.
“The State Budget failed to match the Albanese Government’s $200 million commitment to the much-needed Amberley Interchange, in a bitter blow for local commuters and RAAF Base Amberley personnel who use the intersection,” he said.
Mr Neumann noted many of the Budget announcements were either inherited from the former Labor Government or jointly funded by the Commonwealth.
Mr Neumann argued the Budget also lacked meaningful cost-of-living relief for local families, saying many households would instead rely on Federal Government measures, including tax cuts and housing affordability initiatives.
“Despite being the fastest-growing region in Queensland, Ipswich continues to be neglected and is clearly not a priority for this government,” he said.
“Our community deserves better, and I will continue to work with our local State MPs to fight for our fair share.”
