CSI Ipswich will host its own country festival on Saturday featuring Golden Guitar Award winner Melody Moko and her band Western Electric.
Boots, Beats and Beers! kicks off at 1pm on October 11, with a day of country-themed games, demonstrations and entertainment with Noah’s Pig Racing in the top car park, a whip cracking demonstration, chilli eating competition, cornhole and horseshoe games and a line dancing class.
Singer-songwriter Melody Moko won New Talent of the Year at the 49th Golden Guitar Awards in 2021 and won a QMA Award for her release Two Kids and A Radio.
Melody describes herself as a musical activist, writing songs about what she stands up for as a human. Her latest album Suburban Dream deals with social issues touching on her personal life and observations of others.
Since the release of her debut album The Wreckage in 2017, she has taken her music to the world with high-profile support acts and festivals.
She played at this year’s Gympie Music Muster and Tamworth Country Music Festival and had a busy year touring last year supporting The Whitlams, Ian Moss and Don Walker.
Suburban Dream is an album Melody says was “always a risky album”.
“We didn’t make it because we wanted to win awards, we made it because we just had to make it,” she said.
“This is an album that doesn’t pander to anything or anyone. It’s that sort of collection of songs. And they are sung like they matter – and they do.”
Melody promised “something a bit different” for Boots, Beats and Beers!.
“It’s not your regular Melody Moko gig, but I promise you we’ll be having a bunch of fun,” she said.
“I’ve put together a bit of a fun country party band and we’re pulling on our cowboy boots for the Boots, Beats and Beers day! We’ll be playing all your favourite country bangers.”
