Brassall Christmas in the Park kicked off the first of many Christmas Carol performances to be held in our city on Friday night, with a healthy crowd exceeding 5000.

Having been on the committee for a number of years this is always one of my favourite productions. The quality of sound and performance is always spectacular, and this year was no exception with the 32 piece band in fine form, led by Greg Wilson.

Singers assembled from across the city and were backed by Brassall State School and West Mac performers.

Well done to all performers, band, organisers and Murray Keidge and his sound and lighting team from CPC on a spectacular performance.

Lighting up Ipswich

This Friday marks the official start of Christmas light competitions and I’m looking forward to taking the grandkids to see as many displays as we can.

The most famous tree in SE Queensland the Wallace tree will light up on Friday, with carols under the tree on Sunday night.

Golden pair

Last Saturday local Brassall couple Russ and Barb Bourke celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They had three daughters who have given them eight grandchildren and the couple live in their house they’ve called home for over 45 years. Congratulations and I trust you have many years of celebration ahead.

Ministers retire

Last week Mark and Gail Edwards retired from full-time ministry after 33 years as senior pastors at Cityhope Church at Ripley. The couple have been serving our community for nearly 50 years, and were my old youth leaders back in the City Uniting Church in the late 1970s.

I’d like to take opportunity to thank them for their service to our city and wish them well in their future.

Mo-Men Mo money

Finally well done to Springfield Mo-Men on a successful campaign raising funds and awareness for men’s mental health throughout Movember.

Saturday night Mark, Paul, Matt and their team organised a Casino Event and along with other activities has raised over $71 000 for their cause.

I’ve been growing a moustache to support the cause and to encourage men to talk and raise awareness about prostate cancer. I must admit I’m looking forward to being clean shaven.

Have a great week, take time to visit the stunning Christmas light displays and enjoy the season.
