Around one in five Australian students don’t find school engaging, and behind that statistic are young people losing their connection to learning, and wondering what comes next.
In Ipswich, The BUSY School offers a genuine alternative.
Part of The BUSY Group, The BUSY School is a not-for-profit senior school built for Year 11 and 12 students who need a different way forward.
Classes are capped at 16, learning plans are tailored to each student, and the staff take the time to understand each young person’s circumstances and what they want from life after school.
Students complete their QCE through core school subjects blended with industry-recognised training, individualised timetables, and hands-on work readiness.
That includes industry visits, work experience, and access to school-based apprenticeships and traineeships through The BUSY Group’s established employment network. Many students graduate with a qualification, real workplace experience, and a clear next step already in motion.
Beyond the classroom, students have access to support for their mental health, wellbeing, and the everyday challenges that can get in the way of learning. There are no fees, and uniforms, textbooks, stationery and meals are all provided.
Since opening its first campus in Cairns in 2020, The BUSY School has grown to 10 Queensland campuses plus an online option.
At the Ipswich campus, Principal Tim Gado says the focus is on the whole young person, not just their grades.
