Last weekend Ipswich was on the world stage as Willowbank hosted the “Winternationals.”

This is the largest drag race meeting in the world outside of North America.

It is held each year in our city, and I’d love to see it embraced with a parade through the CBD showcasing what is on offer.

Imagine seeing a top fueler ambling down Brisbane Street.

Archie Graham is still No 1.

Achie hits an ace

Archie Graham, the humble tennis player from Ipswich District Tennis Club at Queens Park retained his World #1 ranking in the PWII class on the weekend.

He did this winning the men’s singles in the Virtus Global Games in France.

He also won silver in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles to cap off a great and productive trip.

Also taking time out to enjoy retirement is (right) Rob Sayle.

Business veterans retire

Booval Fair opened in 1969, and so did Harvest Markets run by Duncan Robson.

Robby Sayle bought the business from him and for more than 40 years Rob and his family have run the store.

Thursday will be his last day of trade as Rob will be retiring and has sold the business. Two years ago, Rob junior started Harvest Markets at Yamanto Central, and he will now be investing all his time in that store.

All the best Rob senior, enjoy your retirement, and well done on the longest serving fruit and vegetable shop in Ipswich.

Rob and Elle are calling it quits after 30 long years.
Rob and Elle are calling it quits after 30 long years.

Well known hairdressing salon Rob-Elle will be finishing trade at the end of the month, after 30 years in the business, as Rob and Elle will be hanging up the scissors.

Rob used to be my hairdresser at North Ipswich back in the 90s and was responsible for a couple of my mullets.

All the best in your retirement, and thanks for the memories.

Goleby’s Basement will be missed by live music lovers.

Music venue closes

Goleby’s Basement in the CBD was a little alternate music venue that has been going for six years.
Saturday night was its 200th and final gig. Thank you Christian, the promoter for bringing live music to the city and we wish you well in your future adventures.

It’s Cup time

This Saturday the largest race crowd in Queensland will be gathered at Bundamba for the Ipswich Cup.

People gather from all over SE Queensland for the biggest party in town. With picture perfect weather predicted, it’s sure to be another great event,

Have a great week.
