ILLEGAL dumping cost Ipswich ratepayers about $160,000 in clean-up costs last calendar year, with everything from household rubbish and mattresses to tyres and construction waste being dumped across the city.
New figures from Ipswich City Council reveal 1812 illegal dumping incidents were reported during the 2025 calendar year, triggering 1092 investigations.
The figures come as the Queensland Government launches an almost $14 million statewide crackdown on illegal dumping, providing funding to 52 councils to strengthen surveillance, enforcement and investigative capabilities.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said illegal dumping came at a significant cost to the community and environment.
“Illegal dumping degrades our environment and costs ratepayers a substantial amount of money each year in clean-up costs,” Mayor Harding said.
Individual offenders can face fines of more than $2600.
